Bethany Phillis attended GSW in 2004 for English. That summer, she confirmed her love for teaching and discovered her love for Governor's School.
She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2009 with a BA in English and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Duke University. She taught for a few years in Durham, but her high school alma mater eventually called her home. In 2014, she returned to her hometown to teach English at Hendersonville High School. Students around school recognize her as the teacher wearing a Lowe’s Tool Belt, which holds her “Tools for Education.”
Bethany works as the Dean of Students and an Area III Instructor at Governor's School West during her summers. There, she rediscovers her love of teaching, reading, and analyzing Disney films.
